Now in its second year the Formica Design A Laminate Competition attracted nearly 2000 entries. There were four categories and my designs, Baroque Stone , a photographic collage of architectural details, won in the Contemporary and Portal , a surrealist vision of shell and glass, was runner-up in the Avant-garde. Cyan Sparks was also highly commended. The panel of judges included Blueprint editor Vicky Richardson, director of Echo Design Agency, Naomi Cleaver, and vice-president of Formica global design, Renee Hytry. The panel described my designs as being not only clever and capitalising on design's current vogue for pattern, but also genuinely innovative and inventive.
